Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are the currently the Big Three of console makers. However, in March 1999, when Microsoft's console was in its early stages and Sega was still in the console industry, a man named John Gildred wanted to change that. After a game of Quake, he wanted to make a console that allowed anyone to make games for it. He, along with a team, founded Indrema, wanting to make a wave in the console industry by making a Linux-based machine that could do it all; it would be a game system, MP3 player, DVR, DVD player, CD player, and internet device. They called it the L600 (a.k.a. The Indrema Entertainment System) and officially founded Indrema in January of 2000. However, by April 2001, Indrema couldn't raise capital and shut down.
But what if Indrema was successfully funded to get their console on the market?
